Almost The End of the Trail

Whew! That was a close one. Hannah called me in an utter panic last night. I ran to my computer and looked up the trailer of a new movie that comes out in January. As I watched it, I noticed several similarities to our movie "Stainmore" that we (we being Hannah...the dedicated one) are trying to find and agent for. I had a melt down as I tried desparately to think of how this company could have gotten a hold of our script. As I watched it again I began to calm down. I don't think that it is so much like ours that it would completely ruin our chances of ever getting it sold. And the story of this other movie was written forever ago and ours about 2 years ago. But, it definitely was a close call. So, if you watch the movie when it comes out (it's called "Tristan and Isolde") and you think it's good, you will really like our movie...which has more action, fighting, romance, and stuff and I think it would be better. That completes my plug for our movie.

And on a lighter note: Aari kicked me this morning while I was putting on her rain blanket. Not while I was trying to ride her, not while I was giving her shots with the vet, not while I was trying to load her on the trailer, but while I was trying to keep the freezing rain off of her like a good horse owner should. So, John, she's all yours.

For the Cause

Joy, I dedicate this post to you. I remeber the days of staying up really really...uh...really late and working on exams and papers. But, there is hope! The holidays are fastly approaching. Actually, a little too fast. And, according to the group, we will soon be engaged in pool, eating, movies, and a whole lot of hanging out. You and everyone else in the group still in college are in my thoughts today as you all take your horrible exams. Maybe when it's all over we can have a gigantic everybody unwind night.

P.S.-The Enya post rocked! Don't let the rest of the group sway you. They're just jealous that they don't have all of her cds.

The Grand Finale

Cole turned into this yesterday. I don't think he'll ever speak to me again. I couldn't bathe him before the horse show because it was so cold. Without fail it was 900 degrees at the show and he got all sweaty. So, I brushed him like crazy right before my first class. Apparantly this was the wrong thing to do because he bit me. I guess that means leave me alone and get out of my face. Anyways, he did great. Two second place ribbons...eventhough he wouldn't start cantering until he ran into the wall. I don't know what it is about the horse complex show ring wall that gets him so excited but at least once a year he has to plow into it to keep himself happy. That will end the show season for this year...finally. It's time for little Aari to come out of the pasture and become a useful part of society. Oh, and the reenactment thing went well also. I'm missing fingers and toes on account of the sleet but I guess that happens sometimes. And, Carroll and Joy didn't run away screaming. That's a good sign. Step two: making them camp out with us.

When the Rain Comes

"Rain in Sunset" by Picchi Anchise
Reprinted from www.InspirationLine.com
I'm selling Cole for $1. I suffered the driving winds and rain to feed him this morning in the hopes that he had not dumped over ALL of his water. And, sure enough. I had to trudge across the road fill up the buckets, wait for traffic to let me back across, and then give him a lecture on why it's bad to dump over his water during a typhoon. Now, I'm soaking wet and nasty. But, my spirit isn't broken. I want to win that stinkin' free horse on Thursday. I'm not sure where I'd put her. Maybe I'll draw John's name for Christmas and he'll mysteriously get a little Arabian in his pasture. Anyways, if anyone wants to volunteer to feed my horses for the rest of my life, I'll have a sign-up sheet ready on Wednesday.

p.s.-Everybody email me your address. It's Christmas card time!!!!

Just About Right

Happy Thanksgiving to all!! Today was cram-packed with watching Asa see her new home for the first time, getting ready for the family Thanksgiving party tomorrow, and ye ole' farm work. (Farm work includes riding the truck around and putting new bumper stickers on my jeep.) Oh yeah, and fixing the fence. One of my horses somehow snuck under the "dead" part of the electric fence yesterday. In my attempt to run her back under I somehow touched the "live" part of the electric fence. My life flashed before my eyes. No wonder she wouldn't come near it.

Well, I'm off to bed. I have 2 days of non-stop eating to prepare myself for and I want to be well rested. I'll be sure to let ya'll know when the Enya cd comes. If you hear a car drive by your house a bunch of times blasting new age, it's definitely not me.

Paint the Sky with Stars

www.ebudae.ru/pictures/covers.html

I thought I would let all of ya'll know that the new Enya cd is out today. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Ahh, I have to leave work and run right out and buy one!!" Even though this is a good idea it might cause you to get fired. And do you want to tell all your friends that you got fired because of Enya? Not so much. So, just go on Amazon and order your little cd there. You know you want to. You know that when you're alone and no one is watching you pop in that Enya cd and hum along. Quit denying it. And if you don't, you better hope I don't draw your name for buying a Christmas present. You'll treasure that Enya gift box set for the rest of your life. If I don't draw your name, consider yourself luck. Really stinkin' lucky. Ok, later. I have to go order my cd now.

Red, White, and Rachael screwed up her alarm clock this morning...

www.nikkichannel.net/quiz/guffman.html

So, this is what I feel like today. I was supposed to be at work at 8:00 and I set my alarm for 7:40. Now, explain to me how this is going to work. Not sure what I was thinking. I had to get up, get dressed (which includes getting my contacts in and my eye looks like someone punched me....don't know what happened there), feed the cats, feed the fish, find lunch, find breakfast, check the dogs water, let the cat back in because he's too cold, let the cat out because he's warmed up, watch the cat sit on the porch and contemplate if he wants to go off the porch or just sit there incase he gets cold again (this is Ellie of course), feed the horses, and eventually...get to work. Not to mention it's -56 degrees. Oh, and my eye is burning. But, I'm not really complaining. I had a great week. I actually rode my horse twice. And, I saw Joy this morning and we were able to talk. So, I'm good.

Remains of the Day

www.bergoiata.org

We shall name him Francisco. And he shall live in the woods and hunt cows for the rest of his days. And occasionally scare the living crud out of chili eaters and those who ride on hay bales. He shall open gates behind those who are pulled by a tractor and release the foul black beasts to stampede those who cannot run as fast so that he can steal their smores. Two will be chosen to defeat him. They must leave all weapons behind. There is only a small chance of success. Keep them in your thoughts. And if they aren't back by sun up...feed the smart one's horses for her.

Sleeping in Woods With Spiders

Well, we didn't actually "Rally round the Bonnie flag" this weekend (got stuck being Federal) but a good time was had by all. After dodging ginormous spiders and near catching the poofy dresses on fire incidents we finally made it through 2 days of living in the woods. And yes, cheese and salami can sit out on a plate all day on a warm day and not kill you. The highlight of the event was definitely the dance. Poor Tommy, Mike, and Marshall. I hope you have recovered from me and Amory dragging you all over the place. Especially the hour and a half long, 10,000 people Grand March. Anyway, can't wait till next time.

Oh, and Tommy, if you ever play that snare drum at 6:30 in the morning again I'll poke a hole in it.

The Aftermath

So, here's the product of the Halloween party at Hannah's. I was a cross between The Old Man of Wandering Mountain/Gandalf/and the guy from Karate Kid. But, I was obviously no match for Fat Elvis and his velcro stomach and patch-o-chest hair. Tommy wins the award for best dressed and most creative dialogue. If I ever hear another Elvis impression again it'll be too soon. My plan to eat only a few carrots and drink water didn't pan out. I hit that snack table like nobody's business. I'm still waiting for my blood sugar to come down. I hope everybody had a good time and maybe next year everybody will be able to come. I think I'll break out "ye ole giraffe costume" from elementary school.

And Boy, Are Their Arms Tired!

Miranda (Rubberband) and Keithan (He who will make millions) have flown back home with their new cat toy for their child Oscar. What could possibly be better than a big stuffed cat with random dangly things attached that crunches when you walk on it...or...sleep in this case. I think we should take a few notes from this little kitty. He probably needs to go do some things around the house like fold clothes, wash dishes, cook supper. And, what is he doing? Taking a nap. Yes, he knows how to take advantage of the good things in life. Oscar, I salute you.

It was a sunny afternoon when Bob said to George, "Hey, George, why don't we get ourselves 2 horses? We could ride them in the summer and in the winter we could put them in the paddock behind the house." George thought it was a great idea, so the next day they went out and bought themselves 2 horses. They rode them in the summer, but when winter came George got worried. He said "Hey, Bob, how are we going to tell them apart next spring?" Bob said, "Well, I'll shave the mane off mine and you shave the tail off yours." This satisfied George, so he did. The next spring when they went back to get their horses they found the horses' hair had all grown back. Alarmed, George said, "Oh great, now how are we going to tell them apart?" and Bob said, "Well, you can have the black one and I'll take the white one." -nchorsenews.com

Silence

How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Hannah Loves Horse Show Music

The horse show is officially over. And what a good show it was. I didn't even fall off in the canter class. The bad thing was, 2 other people did. I don't think 16 horses in one class all running at the same time is a really great idea. At least no one was hurt. So, the final results:
Friday night: 3rd place out of 16 horses.
5th out of 22.
Saturday day: 1st out of 22.
2nd out of 9
3rd out of a lot.
5th out of a lot more.
3rd in the youth chamionship.
Youth high point winner.
Saturday night: 4th out of 26 in the championship.

Over all, not a bad show. Poor Cole is so worn out. I'm giving him a major vacation. He really deserves one. A big thanks to all my friends who came out Saturday night and cheered for me. I think it got the judges attention...which is a HUGE plus in a class that big. That leaves only one show left this year. Then we can settle down to a winter of fun trails and warm wool blankets.

You're On In 3...2...1...

Well, this is it. Just 2 more days until we pack up and head out. What? Am I nervous? Why in the world would I be nervous? I'm only taking my hyperneverpaysattention horse to a horse show, which, includes hundreds of other horses that Cole believes are all there for his personal entertainment. I'm only going to take said horse into the show ring (which will be stuffed with most of the hundreds of horses) and then be politely asked by the ring master to "canter your horse please." As they say about the Bristol race track....it's like trying to fly a jet in a gymnasium. Then, I will put him in a stall (which is not home and he knows it and it will be completely destroyed by morning) and repeat the whole day on Saturday...only with more pressure because it's the championships. So, no worries. I guess most of ya'll will be there. But, if you aren't, fear not, I'll give an update after the show. But right now, I'm going to take my not-so-very-nervous self upstairs and pack my show clothes. Wish me luck!

Rachael's Quote of the Day: "Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. Home Again, Home Again

Well, I'm home. And, I'm sitting in front of my computer (listening to Dune-quit laughing Hannah) thinking of something inspired to say...and coming up with nothing. I had a great time at the horse show. I got to see the 2005 World Grand Champion. Actually, the first time I saw him I thought he was a colt someone was leading around. It really made me miss my own horse. I rarely go to shows without dragging him along behind me. I was inspired to come home and ride Cole. If you want to know what it feels like to be mortal, go get on a horse that's been in a stall for a week eating high fat grain on a cold and rainyish day.

Moving on...
This is one of the pictures from Gettysburg the other weekend. We commandeered a camera from one of the guys in the regiment. I have a ton of awesome pictures that I want to post. Hannah, check your email. I'll pass them along to anyone who wants to see them.

To The Fallen

"Far away to the front, I saw the dim outlines of lofty hills, broken rocks, and frightful precepts which resembled Gettysburg. As we advanced further, I found we were fighting that great battle over again and I saw something before me like a thin shadow which I tried to get around and go by. But it kept in front of me and whichever way I turned, it still appeared between me and the enemy. Nobody else seemed to see or notice the shadow which looked as thin as smoke and did not prevent my seeing the enemy distinctly through it. I felt troubled and oppressed but still the shadow went on before me. I pushed forward in the thickest of the fray trying to lose sight of it and went all through the battle of Gettysburg again with this shadow forever before me and between me and the enemy.

And when I came out behind the danger of shot, it spoke to me and said, "I am the angel that protected you. I will never leave nor forsake you."

The surprise was so grest, that I awoke and burst into tears. What had I done that should entitle me to such favor beyond the hundreds of brave and reputed men who had fallen on that day leaving widowed mothers and widowed wives, orphaned children and disconsolate families to mourn their fates?"

For the next few days I'll be posting some of the photos we took at Gettysburg this past weekend. It was my very first visit to the battlefield, and it was a very moving experience. Although we spent nearly 3 days touring the site there was still so much that I wasn't able to see. It would take about a week to get it all in. It was without a doubt one of the best events I've ever been able to attend (4.5 mile walk and all). It was really hard to grasp what actually happened there. The guys in the regiment did an awesome job, especially in the woods (I have pictures) at the 24th Michigan monument. It was erie listening to the reenactors charge through. I guess you just had to be there. One of those things I'll never forget.

The Donkey Whisperer

(p.s.-pay no attention to the masked man)

Ok, so let me clarify: You give me an entire CD of photos. Then you give me instructions to never photoshop any of them and use them in embarrassing ways. And you expect me to follow your instructions? Well, I didn't do any photoshoping. This is an honest picture. I figured I had to put something really good up since I'll be gone the next couple of days. Cedar and Holly will need to be walked if anyone feels up to it. Yeah, me neither.

If anything good happens ya'll call me. I don't want to be left out.

Hippopotamic Land Mass

I had a great time last night. Movie night with the group is the greatest. I would just like to say that I hope every girl can find that special guy that would put her out if she got attacked by a flame spud, save her from the lightning sand, and defend her from a giant rodent even without the use of a glue trap. Ladies, he's out there somewhere. You might need a Giant and a Spaniard to find him...but he's out there. And when you do find him you can sing to him that oh-so-famous Storybook Love song from the movie. Here, I will remind you. It is Jesse's favorite and all:
Come my love, I'll tell you a tale
of a boy and girl and their love story
and how he loved her oh, so much,
and all the charms she did possess.

My love is like a storybook story.
But it's as real as the feelings I feel.
My love is like a storybook story.
But it's as real as the feelings I feel;
it's as real as the feelings I feel.

Now this did happen once upon a time
When things were not so complex.
And how he worshipped the ground she walked on.
When he looked in her eyes, he became obsessed.

This love was stronger than the powers so dark,
A prince could have within his keeping;
His spells to weave and steal a heart
Within her breast, but only sleeping.

He said, "Don't you know I love you oh, so much,
And lay my heart at the foot of your dress?"
She said, "Don't you know that storybook loves
Always have a happy ending?"

Then he swooped her up, just like in the books,
And on his stallion they rode away.
-Mark Knopfler
What? You don't like that song? Well, get your own then.

Sleepy Rach

It's getting late and I'm really tired but I wanted to take a second to update my blog. Congratulations to J&B on their future having of a child. Hurry up 'cause I want to play with him/her right now. I'm so excited about being an aunt. I finally get to be crazy Aunt Rachael. For those few who came over the other night, I guess that'll teach you to watch a movie at my house. Everyone gets the soundtrack for Christmas. We're running out of childhood Rachael movies. I need some suggestions. I guess we can always go back to the Feature Family Films. I think if we combined all of ours we would have about 10 million.

I Almost Forgot

www.aaathemes.com/detail/Animals/A

FYI: Always check your bit before riding your horse. Especially if you plan on going fast. There is a remote possibility that while you are riding a horse through a field that when you pull back on the reins, fully expecting them to work, that your bit can snap in half causing a great deal of panic for you and your horse who doesn't understand why he is turning in circles while his rider is yelling for him to whoa. When you buy a bit, be prepared to spend some money. If you buy a cheap bit, take the money you saved and put it into an account designated for your hospital bills for when the bit breaks. This is a very personal topic considering the traumatic events experienced earlier this week.

Funny (lookin') People

I know this girl who does strange things. This is one of the things that she does.

It got cold tonight. That made me miss the beach. Then I got over it cause I realized (as I drove past the horse complex) that cold weather means State Fair. And State Fair means horse shows, late nights, and lots of food. So, anyone who wants to come ride my horse and get him in shape...come on. Oh, and anyone who wants to work out for me...you can still come on. I have no energy. I suggest a college & career "go to the fair and eat lots of food but don't ride any rides so we don't get sick" night.

Man Hands

Martha just called me from the line at the gas station informing me that tomorrow morning gas prices go up to $3.00 a gallon. So, in light of the fantastic news, I'm looking for volunteers. Who would like to come push me around town tomorrow? I have about a half a tank left . But, after going to work, the post office, the doctor, lunch, the bank, and back to work, I'm gonna have to walk home. Anyways, I'm going to attempt to go to bed early tonight...probly' won't happen though. Oh, for inquiries about the photo I will refer you to Hannah (aka: purple grimace). Brings new meaning to the term "man hands."

The Call to Go

Since Bobbie and Jesse will be leaving us soon for the mission field so far away I wanted to post a favorite poem of Jesse. I believe it pretty much sums up how Christians should feel about life...and death. This poem has a way of putting whether we go, or stay, into perspective. Bobbie and Jesse, you will have our prayers and support wherever you go. However, if you chose to stay with us....we won't be sad (selfishly said).

Afraid of what?
To feel the spirit's glad release?
To pass from pain to perfect peace?
The strife and strain of life to cease?
Afraid of that?

Afraid of what?
Afraid to see the Savior's face?
To hear His welcome and to trace the glory,
Glean from wounds of grace?
Afraid of that?

Afraid of what?
A flash, a crash, a pierced heart?
Darkness, light, O heaven's art?
A wound of His a counterpart?
Afraid of that?

Afraid of what?
To enter into heaven's rest,
And yet to serve the Master blessed?
From service good to service best?
Afraid of that?

Afraid of what?
To do by death what life could not?
Baptize with blood a stony plot,
Till souls shall blossom from the spot?
Afraid of that?

Audentia

Mr. What's His Name

As common as the wayside grass.
As ordinary as the soil.
By the score he daily passes
Going to and from his toil.
Stranger he to wealth or fame.
He is only "What's his name?"

Not for him the glittering glory.
Not for him the places high.
Day by Day the same old story,
Try and fail and fail and try.
Life for him is sometimes dull and tame.
Poor old plodding, "What's his name?"

Tho to someone else the guidon.
Tho but few his worth may know.
On his shoulders rest the burden
Of our progress made so slow.
RED THE ROAD
BY WHICH WE CAME,
WITH THE BLOOD OF,
"WHAT'S HIS NAME?"

Beware The Giant Squid

Hey, remember that time when we all went to the beach but the house was too small for everyone to fit into because we ended up bringing everyone in the church and Martha was freaked out that we would get kicked out and sent home. And then I was so sick that I had to go to urgent care the second day we were there. Oh, and what about the light that blew up and nearly burned the place down. Yeah, I remember that too. So, in remembrance....I am giving you all a little farewell gift...."just a common virus." If you start taking vitamins now you might live through it.

And in closing: I had a great time at the beach. Hope everyone else did too. When can you watch a dramatic Coast Guard rescue while sitting in a lawn chair getting a sun tan. Photos to come (right after I find that roll of film. probably where I put my money case).

When Horses Attack

Dedicated to John:

"A lady decides to try horseback riding, even though she has had no lessons or prior experience. She mounts the horse unassisted and the horse immediately springs into motion. It gallops along at a steady and rhythmic pace, but the lady begins to slip from the saddle. In terror, she grabs for the horse's mane, but cannot seem to get a firm grip. She tries to throw her arms around the horse's neck, but she slides down the side of the horse anyway. The horse gallops along, seemingly ignorant of its slipping rider. Finally, giving up her frail grip, the lady attempts to leap away from the horse and throw herself to safety. Unfortunately, her foot becomes entangled in the stirrup, and she is now at the mercy of the horse's pounding hooves as her head is struck against the ground over and over. As her head is battered against the ground, she is mere moments away from unconsciousness when to her great fortune, Bobby, the Wal-Mart greeter, sees her and unplugs the horse.

Thank Goodness for heros."

Sparklers are the Heat!

A million dollars to whoever can tell where this picture came from. I'll give you a hint:

MOONCHILD!!!!!!!

Ok, enough torture. I just spent forever trying to rescue my tack room from four years of dirt and horse grime. After everyone from group left, my mom and I went outside, played with a box of sparklers (don't ask) , and went on a safari for Ellie. He's such a nerd. Anyone who wants a grumpy....overweight wad-o- hair just let me know. I did, however, get ready for the beach trip today by eating potato chips and dip.

Ponderings

So, I had my teeth surgery today. Now I can bum around the house and have a good excuse. I'm not even supposed to exercise (cryin' shame). The only setback is that I can't have any hard food for awhile. Only soups and liquid stuff. Oh, and I look like a vampire. I actually grossed myself out when I looked in the mirror (no lame comebacks allowed). Hopefully in a few days it should look normal again. Till then I'll be in hiding...or finding some way to ride my horse. If anyone wants to volunteer, come right on. Love ya'll!

Mufasa

Behold, the power of horse clippers, a pair of wire gloves, and two very determined people. I think John and Carroll did a rather good job with Wuga. Besides, she's such a sweet kitty and all...I can't imagine them having any problems. I guess it does save a hefty bill from the groomer (if you're able to avoid any emergency room visits). I would like to schedule an appointment for you to come clip Ellie and the barn cat Wommy (p.s.- hope your insurance is paid up). More photos to come!

Just A Blurrr

The weekend is finally over. And what a good weekend it was. I have never eaten so many chips and chocolate in my life. The show was a lot of fun despite the scorching heat, long waits, and hyper horses. We arrived at the show grounds Thursday night and had just enough time to ride the horses before the arena closed for the 7:00 am show the following morning. Tammy decided to bring her horse (who hadn't been ridden in 4 years...till Thursday night). He actually did really well. Two 5th places out of 10-15 horses. Cole did well also. We got everything from 1st to 6th...well, except a 4th place. For some reason they just wouldn't give us a white ribbon no matter what we did. I was able to talk to some trainers and get really good ideas to help improve ole Cole...so watch out! I know ya'll were saddened by the fact that you couldn't come. So the next time a show comes to town and it's 100 degrees, I'll be sure and invite you. As soon as I get my photos back I'll start posting them. Cole and I had a photo session while we were waiting on our class (actually, I was harrassing him while he was trying to eat lunch). Some turned out pretty good.

Tammy did great on Cole...despite making Jordan dump out his water in the "Water Glass Class."(He blames her anyway. I think it's just an excuse). Yes, you heard it right. They actually have a "water glass class." I'll let you ride in it one day.

Feel the Burn

I'll be leaving in about 3 hours for the horse show. Don't cry. I know you all want to come along...but you can't have everything. I'll take plenty of pictures and videotape (just in case I fall off. I would hate for ya'll to miss that). If anyone wants to come to my house and clean out my fish tank while I'm gone, feel free. Oh, yeah, and to those of you who came to the house last night...especially Hannah...revenge will be swift and sweet. I feel like one big piece of Chinese food.

Sweet Summer

ENT: When Summer lies upon the world, and in a noon of gold,
Beneath the roof of sleeping leaves the dreams of trees unfold;
When woodland halls are green and cool, and wind is in the West, Come back to me! Come back to me, and say my land is best!

ENTWIFE: When Summer warms the hanging fruit and burns the berry brown; When straw is gold, and ear is white, and harvest comes to town; When honey spills, and apple swells, though wind be in the West, I'll linger here beneath the Sun, because my land is best!

Survival of the Lucky

Well,
I'm glad to see everyone lived through the not so big thunderstorm at the pool party last night. There is nothing better than cramming 15 people on a porch stocked with food. I love our group. I'm glad we all get along so well. Hope everyone had a great time. If I can get photos from Bobby I'll try to post some. I might have to draw in more clothes on some people so I don't get hate mail. If anyone has any good pictures (hm...that I can alter) let me have 'em. Just send them to my email.

Famous Last Words

"If the gator can jump it...I don't know why the horse can't!"

Well, ok then. Martha, Mike, Joy and I had a blast this past weekend when we loaded up the horses and went to John and Carroll's house for a Saturday trail ride. We had every intention of arriving early, tacking up, and being out on the trail before it got really hot. And, well, it was a noble attempt but 6 horses later we finally got on at the crack of....uh....noon. We were able to ride for several hours through beautiful pastures and woods (where Hannah and I will sneak to make our movie). We only had a few minor setbacks, three ravines to be exact. John said that there was only one. That's fine though. They were the funnest part. Mike realized the benefits of military training when he had to outrun the spotted horse who tried to squish him in the creek. Oh, and Martha has now entered physical therapy. But, we expect a full recovery. We had the most fun ever and can't wait to come back....if John can put his trailer back together after what Spice did to it. We are getting both of you t-shirts that say "I survived Spice and Ari." Hope you don't feel like this (click here) about us. Thanks for a great weekend!

P.S.-Joy, thanks for getting the bug out of my eye.

Brief, and to the point.

I'm hungry. So, I'm going to go get lunch. Oh, and buy horse food. I hope everyone is ready for tomorrow. That will require a whole different post entirely.

Kisses!

Ok, I'm outta' here for the weekend. Flying solo at the office nearly killed me today...so I'm gone. I'll miss everyone. I want to hear reports of everyone's weekend when I get back. If anything good happens while I'm gone, call me.

Don't Ask

Don't ask me about the horse show...because I won't tell you. I especially won't tell you that it was 7,000 degrees with no shade. Then I won't tell you about the incredible exploding hoof polish bottle that erupted minutes after arriving on the show grounds. Then I won't tell you that Cole dug a hole and laid down in it (while tied to the horse trailer). I will continue by not telling you that Cole tried to kill Tammy in the western class because even though it was 7,000 degrees he wanted to be hyper. The 2 brown ribbons and 1 green ribbon...you will never hear of.

And in closing; if you are wondering about the horse show, don't ask...because I won't tell you. Tammy, I'm working on the slowing down situation. I'll have him ready for you next time. You did a great job though. Check out the video!

Safari

www.deskpicture.com

Tomorrow I am leaving for a safari. Ok, not really. But, safari does mean journey...so...I am leaving town for a horse show. And since I've been giving ya'll updates on the chicken, I feel it necessary to give you a horse update also. Poor little (little doesn't actually fit the current situation) Cole is so not show ready it's disgusting. After our last show he has had about 2 weeks off....with the exception of a few rides and playing in the round pen which I would not consider to be work. So I'm loading up in the morning with a 50 pounds overweight horse who hasn't had a bath and was lucky to get clipped. We'll ride in our 3 classes and then pack back up for the trip home (sometime very early Sunday morning). I'm not too concerned about this show. We either do well or we don't. I'm saving my energy for the big July show (that will involve several days of my life.) So, I'm off to bed. If you happen to wake up around 8:00 tomorrow morning, think of me outside attempting to wash my horse as he tries to mow my entire lawn.

Oh, and just to show you how badly I need sleep....last night I desperately searched for the directions on the
Women's One A Day bottle to see how many I was supposed to take.

Rachael Sonja

Well, I should have been in bed hours ago...but here I sit. Hannah sent me this photo. Red Sonja was one of my heroes when I was little. Yes, I grew up and got over it, but, it's still one of my favorite movies. That should serve as a warning to all those who don't know me. My other friends learned a valuable lesson when I made them watch Legend this weekend. But, it's nothin' some cheese puffs and Chinese food won't fix.
I really need some down time but a horse show next weekend will put and end to that. If anyone wants to go in my place you are more than welcome. These days Cole doesn't pay much attention to me anyway. He'll never know the difference. Oh, and further update on the chicken situation: she went back in the chicken pen today with all the others. Only one of the others tried to pick on her but Betty handled herself quite well (the chicken almost got hers) so all is well in the hen house.

Ok, Rachael's inspiration of the day: Never follow. Always lead. If something doesn't quite feel right...it probably isn't. If something looks strange to you....just think how it might look to others.

I am flustered. So is Martha. We are at work and are both flustered. Not so much that work is hard but that we have lost something that we need to find. If any of ya'll find it, just let us know.

Thanks

Oscar The Cat

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the newest member of the family. He was adopted my Miranda and Keithan from a animal shelter. And, personally....I think he's just the cutest little cat ever (exceptions being: Afton/Ellie/Peri and on certain occasions Cedar). I hope everyone takes the time to say hi. Congratulations M & K for such a perfect addition to your home. Keep us updated.

And on a different note, not to take away from the new kitten and all.....the chickens have officially been kicked out of the house and now live in the big pen at Martha's. I didn't even cry. However, I did almost cry when my beloved red tick jumped her big chicken and tried desparately to make Bojangles out of her. So, now I have exchanged 2 chickens for 1. Keep Betty in your thoughts. She is recovering nicely but would appreciate your visits.

I dedicate this quote to Oscar...and might as well dedicated it to Betty too:

Victory Pass

Well, I would consider the horse show to be a success. The first night was ok. I rode Cole in 4 classes and ended up with 2 fourth places, 1 third, and 1 second. Tammy rode in 1 class and got a second. Saturday night (championship night) we got 2 reserves......and they made us do a victory pass with the first place horse (that was interesting.....Cole racing for the gate) and Tammy got first in her class....hmmm....should I give details......nope. Anyways, we all had a good time except probably Cole who won't speak to me at the moment except to tell me to feed, water, and clean his stall. But I'm proud of him and he has earned a little time off before we are off to our next big adventure. I'll keep you updated on that one. Tammy pulled a fast one and I hope she knows what she's in for. There's no going back......mohahaha!

Ok, onward. Rachael's Quote of the Day:

Q: What did the instructor at the school for Kamikazi pilots say to his students? A: Watch closely. I'm only going to do this once.

Mmm...Mmm...Good

Ok, I have found the love of my life. His name is Cake Batter Ice Cream. It was a much needed treat after the stresses of yesterday. Well, not so much the stress...just the exercise. I combined "fitness walking" with Martha and pilates with Hannah. Result: I'm not walking so good today. Maybe that calls for some Taco Bell. I'm still deciding. The chickens in my living room are growing. Yes, I said chickens. In case you don't already know I have two teenager chickens living in my house until they are old enough to not get eaten by the fierce owl and fox. They should soon be on their way to Martha's house.

Well, that's all the current events for now. Big horse show this weekend. Email me if ya'll wanna come and I'll let you know where it is. I could use the screaming support of fans. And now....on to the quote of the day.

Completely and Utterly

I recently heard a friend of mine say that she was asked if she had ever been "in love." Her respectable answer to this question was no. I am glad she said that. It was an honest answer. It also made me begin to apply that question to myself. Is it possible to love someone but not be in love? Ok, sounds complicated. Here is my general definition of being "in love."

To be in love (the most misunderstood word in the English language): An action between two people. Genuine. Authentic. Mature. To be willing to give up a part of yourself for the other person and to do it even if the other person doesn't know you have done it. To be selfless. To expect nothing in return. To sacrifice your desires (not to be confused with beliefs or standards...that's a whole different topic) for the benefit of the other person. To be willing to give your life for the other person.

Looking solely at this definition I can honestly agree with my friend that, no, I have never been in love.

However, I have loved.
